So winter itch as the name says you have itching during winter. In medical terminology we call it Pruritus Hiemalis. Essentially this happens because the cold air generally has less moisture in it, less humidity in it so it tends to suck the humidity from the surface of our skin. This cold dry air therefore makes our skin drier. It also happens in summer months when there is excessive AC or you’re sitting in an AC room for a very long time the humidity from your skin is taken away by the dry air leaving it extremely irritable and itchy. So what are the symptoms of the winter itch? First is you notice dryness and scaling of the skin and that dry skin becomes extremely itchy especially at night or especially when you’re changing your clothes and because of constant itching then you start noticing scratch marks and sometimes even small blood points. This is the time you know that you need to do something about it and what do we do? Very simple things that you need to remember. First important thing is stop taking those hot showers. You know in winter it feels so relaxing and nice to be in a bathroom where there is a lot of steam and the water is nice and hot but hot water subsequently causes extra evaporation of the moisture which is there on the surface of our skin. Therefore it becomes dryer. The other thing is after the shower just pat dry. Let the water be on the surface of the skin and immediately apply your moisturizer on a wet moist damp skin. What will that do? That will lock the moisture in and prevent evaporation. So all day long you will have better softer skin. I also recommend at times to use a double moisturizer after a shower. First you can use a simple moisturizer containing aloe vera gel or glycerin and top it up with a natural oil. So you get double protection. Water moisturizer as well as an oil hydrant. Natural oils that you can use are the simplest is the coconut oil of course but you can use oils containing vitamin E all these give you an added factor of even anti-oxidation which reduces pigmentation too. The other thing you need to remember is clothes. Woolen clothes and clothes which are synthetic like you know nylon or rayon clothes can irritate the dry skin further. So if you are wearing wools remember to first wear a cotton inner and then wear your woolen sweaters. That will prevent the wool directly touching the skin and irritating it. Sometimes we also notice excessive rashes sensitivity post severe winter itch. Before it reaches that level do consult your doctor get your moisturizers right and use them regularly twice a day.

Louisa spent most of her time growing up as a triathlete, training on average 4 hours a day and qualifying for the Beijing and Auckland world championships. Her love for neuroscience came after being hit by a car and having her world title stripped from her just 3 weeks prior to Beijing. During her rehab she realised that it wasnโt the multiple broken bones that brought her back to racing, it was the neuroscience behind physical performance and how this can be optimized for both clinical and peak performance populations.
Louisa went on to study medicine and science at the University of Sydney with a focus on neurophysiology where she was able to understand from a molecular level how the brain functions. Since then, she formed her own company Neuro Athletics to solve the concussion and mental health epidemic facing elite athletes today which grew from a Sydney based company to now, a NY based company.

The coronary circulation serves the purpose of matching myocardial oxygen supply and consumption. A transient mismatch causing reversible myocardial ischaemia is the dominant feature of chronic ischaemic heart disease (IHD), which is also characterized by stable symptoms over a period of months, years, or even decades. Stable angina is the most frequent presentation of chronic IHD; other clinical presentations are microvascular angina, vasospastic angina, and ischaemic cardiomyopathy. Stable angina is mainly caused by obstructive coronary atherosclerosis. ECG exercise stress test is the first-line test for diagnosis and risk stratification; when it cannot be performed or is not interpretable imaging stress tests are indicated. The aims of treatment are to improve prognosis and to reduce symptoms. Prognosis is improved by the reduction of coronary risk factor burden, by the administration of antiplatelet agents, and, in high risk patients, by myocardial revascularization. Symptoms are improved by anti-anginal drugs which act through different mechanisms, including reduction of myocardial oxygen consumption and improvement of myocardial perfusion, and by myocardial revascularization in patients who do not satisfactorily respond to drugs. Microvascular angina is caused by coronary microvascular dysfunction; its prognosis is good, but symptoms can be invalidating and frequently do not fully respond to conventional anti-anginal drugs. Vasospastic angina is caused by coronary artery spasm; prognosis is good if spasm is prevented by treatment with coronary vasodilators. Ischaemic cardiomyopathy is dominated by symptoms and signs of left ventricular dysfunction; prognosis is mainly determined by the degree of left ventricular dysfunction and seems improved by myocardial revascularization in patients with large areas of myocardial viability….

Dr. Gus Kousoulas is an Associate Vice President for Research & Economic Development at Louisiana State University. Dr. Kousoulas joined the LSU faculty in 1988 and became full professor in 1994. He is currently professor of virology and biotechnology at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine, with adjunct appointments at the LSU Department of Biological Sciences, LSU College of Science and the the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, and the LSU Health Sciences Centerโs Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center in New Orleans. He also holds an appointment in the School of Animal Sciences at the LSU AgCenter, and he is an affiliate member of the Tulane National Primate Research Center located in Covington, La.
He is the lead researcher of the LSU-Tulane โCenter for Experimental Infectious Diseases,โ which is funded by the National Institutes of Health. His research interests are focused on the molecular biology of human herpes viruses, including Kaposiโs Sarcoma Associated Herpes virus, which causes Kaposiโs cancer in humans. Kousoulas has extensively utilized viral vectors for vaccine development and cancer treatment, and has constructed and patented herpes simplex viruses that can selectively replicate in human breast cancer cells providing a unique approach to treatment.

There are four genes responsible for the production of alpha chains.
